Manchester United, one of the most well-known clubs in the world, has been put up for sale by their current owners, the Glazer family, setting off alarms for a number of prospective buyers around the world. Few clubs have a larger global fan base than United, one of the most successful in English and European football history.
Apple, a global leader in technology, is said to be interested in buying the Premier League club and is already preparing a mammoth £ 5.8 billion ($7 billion) takeover. With a projected revenue of $378 billion in 2021, Apple is the largest technology company in the world.
According to a report, Apple CEO Tim Cook is eager to investigate the possibility of buying United from the Glazer family, who have owned the organization since 2005. The banks chosen by the Glazers to oversee the sale of the club will likely meet with Cook soon.
Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly joined the long list of prospective bidders for United, which will be music to the ears of United fans who have long yearned for wealthy owners who will be willing to pour money into the team, which is in desperate need of a total makeover.
If the takeover is successful, Apple will reportedly be willing to spend a lot because Cook intends to build the club the best stadium in the world with a brand-new, cutting-edge stadium. It will be extremely difficult for Apple to reinvent United and return them to the top of the heap, though.
Making things run at a club of the stature of United will undoubtedly be difficult for the individuals in charge because Apple has no prior experience managing a sports team or a football club. According to reports, the Glazers want more than £8 billion to sell the team.
But given the state of the market, they might reduce their demand. With a staggering £2 trillion in wealth, Apple CEO Cook is considering making a test bid of £5.8 billion. If the agreement is finalized, Apple's ownership of United will make it the wealthiest club in the world, dwarfing the fortunes of clubs like Manchester City, PSG, and Newcastle United, among others.
Apple is not the only prospective bidder, though; the British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the legendary David Beckham of the United, and Dubai's sovereign wealth fund are also interested.
