Atishi, a key figure in Delhi’s education reforms, will be sworn in as the new chief minister on September 21. She will be the third woman to hold the position in Delhi’s history, with her appointment unanimously approved by the AAP legislative party.
Atishi, a senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, is set to take oath as Delhi’s new chief minister on September 21, marking her as the third female chief minister in Delhi’s history, following Sheila Dikshit (Congress) and Sushma Swaraj (BJP). The AAP has confirmed that Atishi's full cabinet will also be sworn in alongside her.
Atishi rose to prominence through her significant contributions to Delhi’s education reforms, spearheading programs such as the "Happiness Curriculum" and "Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum." She managed key portfolios like finance, education, and revenue during Arvind Kejriwal's recent imprisonment. After Kejriwal officially stepped down on Tuesday, he recommended Atishi as his successor during a party meeting, which was unanimously approved by the AAP legislative party.

Representing the Kalkaji constituency, Atishi first gained recognition as an advisor to the Delhi government's education department before winning a seat in the 2020 legislative elections. Her leadership comes at a crucial time as Delhi faces upcoming assembly polls in February 2025, amid mounting allegations against the AAP regarding financial mismanagement and civic infrastructure challenges.
