South Korean
defender Kim Min-jae has officially joined the German club on a five-year
contract. The talented player, previously part of Napoli's victorious Serie A
squad, has embarked on a new chapter in his career. Although Bayern has not
disclosed the exact transfer fee, reports from German and Italian media suggest
that a release clause of 50 million euros (equivalent to 56.11 million USD)
secured Min-jae's transfer.
Expressing his
enthusiasm, Min-jae shared his sentiments on the club's website, saying,
"FC Bayern is a dream for every footballer. I'm really looking forward to
what's to come in Munich. It's a new beginning for me, and I'll continue to
develop here. In discussions with the club, it was made clear to me from the
start how interested they are in me. My first goal is to play a lot of games.
In addition, I want to win as many trophies as possible."
At 26 years old,
Min-jae arrived at Napoli in July last year, leaving behind Turkish side
Fenerbahce. He played a pivotal role in Napoli's successful campaign,
contributing to their first Scudetto triumph in over three decades. Recognized
for his outstanding performances, Min-jae was voted the best defender in the
league.
Bayern CEO
Jan-Christian Dreesen commended Min-jae's achievements, stating, "Kim
Min-jae has developed extremely well, winning the Serie A title with Napoli
last season and being voted the best defender in the league. He impresses with
his physical presence, as well as his mentality and speed. We're pleased he can
immediately take part fully in pre-season, and firmly believe that he will also
excite our fans with his style of play."
During his tenure
at Napoli, Min-jae showcased his skills in 45 matches across various
competitions, finding the back of the net twice. Earlier on Tuesday, he bid
farewell to Napoli, expressing his gratitude to the club and its passionate
fans via an Instagram statement. He acknowledged their support and credited
them for making the Scudetto victory possible after a 33-year wait since the
era of Diego Maradona.
In addition to
his club achievements, Min-jae boasts an impressive international career,
having earned 49 caps for the South Korean national team since his debut in
2017. However, due to military service commitments, he was unable to
participate in the team's recent friendly matches.
