to Western support, the Senate deal for border enforcement measures and aid to
Ukraine and Israel crumbled swiftly on Tuesday. Despite Biden's impassioned
plea for Congress to "show
some spine,"
Republicans withdrew their support, citing concerns over the proposed
legislation. McConnell admitted defeat, signalling a loss of control over his
GOP conference.
The Pentagon's decision
to halt arms shipments to Kyiv adds to the urgency, as Ukraine faces critical
shortages amid Russia's relentless attacks. Biden emphasized the importance of
timely aid, warning that delays play into Putin's hands. The proposed aid
package aimed to showcase American strength globally but faced staunch
opposition from conservatives, led by Trump.
