Both injured convicts were brought to a hospital for medical assistance, while the perpetrators managed to escape the scene.

Two prisoners were injured on Saturday after some unknown miscreants allegedly opened fire at them inside the premises of Samastipur court.

The incident occurred when criminals openly challenged the police and fired shots, sending shockwaves through the vicinity.

The injured persons, identified as Prabhat Chaudhary and Prabhat Tiwari, were attending a court hearing when the gunshots were fired, leading to a scene of panic and dread.

Both injured convicts were brought to a hospital for medical assistance, while the perpetrators managed to escape the scene.

As per reports, the detainees were implicated in a case relating to illegal booze trading. Four thugs confronted them as they were being led to the courthouse for their hearing. Both Prabhats were shot; Prabhat Tiwari in the hand and Prabhat Chaudhary in the thigh.

The attackers ran about 30–40 metres to get out of the courthouse's main gate and then escaped.

Samastipur SP Vinay Tiwari reported that the Special Task Force (STF) had successfully tracked down and arrested infamous liquor gang member Prabhat Chaudhary following a six-month investigation.

The ongoing trial of his case was scheduled for the day of the incident. He noted the suspected involvement of the "Liquor mafia" and acknowledged security lapses, expressing that timely closure of exit gates by police officials would have led to the immediate arrest of the shooters.

Authorities have intensified security in the court campus and are actively searching for the assailants. In response to the incident, a Special Task Force (STF) has been formed under the leadership of the Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The identity of the attackers has reportedly been established by the authorities.
