Bishan Singh Bedi, the former India captain and legendary spinner, passed away at the age of 77 on Monday. Over the last two years, Bedi faced health challenges and underwent numerous medical procedures, including a knee surgery about a month ago. He is survived by his wife Anju and their two children, Neha and Angad. Bedi, who played 67 Tests during his 12-year career spanning from 1967 to 1979, was one of India's most celebrated cricketers. Alongside Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrasekhar, and S. Venkataraghavan, he formed the most formidable spin quartet in the history of Indian cricket, revolutionizing the art of spin bowling worldwide. In 1970, Bedi was honored with the Padma Shri award. He also captained India in 22 Tests and played a pivotal role in India's first-ever One Day International (ODI) against East Africa in 1975, where he bowled 12 overs, eight of which were maidens, conceded just six runs, and took one wicket. Bedi is widely regarded as the game's greatest left-arm spinner.

"He organized several training camps in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamsala. When this stadium was being built, he used to stay in the Indian dressing room, working with and mentoring the players. Although he maintained strong connections with Punjab and Delhi, he held a special place in his heart for Himachal as well. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his entire family."
Bedi made his Test debut against Australia in 1969-70, finishing the series with 21 wickets, and he continued to excel. He took 25 wickets against England, 18 against West Indies, 22 more against England, and 25 and 31 wickets again versus England and Australia, solidifying his status as one of the greatest spinners of all time.
