Background of the Buxar Firing The SJVN (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam) had begun constructing a coal power plant in the area of the Chausa Block located at a distance of 140 kms from Patna. It largely impacted the lands of farmers from the neighboring Banarpur village. The land acquisition for the power plant plan had been concluded in between 2010 and 2011. However, as the plan caught pace by 2022 and the lands of farmers were being gradually overtaken, the farmers demanded that they must be paid equitable compensation according to the current land rates, which the Company refused.
