On the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. At the National War Memorial in New Delhi, he joined Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others in honouring the fallen heroes, calling their courage unmatched and their legacy a guiding light for future generations.

In a public message, General Chauhan described the immense odds faced by Indian troops during the war—fighting uphill battles against entrenched Pakistani forces occupying high-altitude positions. He praised the young officers who led their men through near-vertical cliffs under heavy fire and in severe weather, eventually securing a hard-fought victory.

He acknowledged the painful truth of Pakistan’s betrayal, stating that the enemy had disguised its regular troops as insurgents to extend the conflict beyond the Himalayan range. Despite this treachery, he said, Indian forces displayed unmatched grit, leadership, and patriotism in restoring territorial integrity.

CDS Chauhan emphasized that Kargil Vijay Diwas is not only about commemorating the past but also about drawing strength for the future. He called on every citizen to embrace national pride and duty, inspired by the sacrifices of those who gave everything for India.

Referring to the recent Operation Sindoor, he said it echoed the spirit of Kargil, proving that the Indian Armed Forces remain ever-ready to confront challenges with unity and resolve. The message was clear: India's strength lies in its preparedness, courage, and unwavering commitment to sovereignty.
