Cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh's Solan Claims Five Lives, Three Missing; Rescue Operation Underway

In a tragic incident, a cloudburst wreaked havoc in Jadon village, located in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district, claiming five lives, while three individuals remain missing. 


The calamity struck as incessant showers battered the region over the past 24 hours, causing landslides that blocked key roads, including the crucial Shimla-Chandigarh route, leading to its closure for both buses and trucks.


Siddhartha Acharya, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Kandaghat, informed, "Five casualties have been reported, with an additional three people unaccounted for. Additionally, five individuals were successfully rescued following the cloudburst incident in Jadon village."

Tragedy strikes Himachal Pradesh as a cloudburst claims lives and causes havoc in Solan district.

The cloudburst led to the forceful washing away of two houses and a cowshed in Jadon village of Kandaghat subdivision, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Currently, a rescue operation is in progress as authorities work diligently to locate the missing individuals and provide relief to the affected community.


Amid the persistent rainfall, the Himachal Pradesh Government took measures to ensure the safety of the populace. The Himachal Pradesh University took the decision to cancel ongoing Post Graduate class examinations scheduled for August 14. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's proactive decision aimed to safeguard students amid the inclement weather conditions.


In the wake of the calamity, the Chief Minister directed administrative officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and District Collectors, to closely monitor the situation. Their responsibilities encompass ensuring smooth access to essential services such as roads, electricity, and water during this challenging period.


Solan

This heart-wrenching event echoes a similar tragedy that transpired in Sirmaur district earlier, where five family members were found buried under debris following a cloudburst. State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported, "A cloudburst struck Village Malagi Dadiyat, Aauli, Tehsil Paonta Sahib, District Sirmaur, causing the disappearance of five family members of Kuldeep Kamar."
