AICC in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala, State Congress president DK Shivakumar and veteran leader Siddaramaiahat were present along with him at a victory ceremony on Saturday evening. Kharge, while attending a press conference at the KPCC office in Bengaluru, said, "Ego doesn't stay for long. It's a democracy and we'll have to listen to people and bow our heads before the people who show us the right path. It's not a victory of anyone, it's a victory of the people of the state. They decided and chose. That's why we got 136 seats - huge after 36 years."

In a landslide victory, Congress won 137 seats in Karnataka, while the Bharatiya Janta Party could garner only 65 out of 244 seats. Janata Dal (Secular), headed by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, won 19 seats. Congress has created a record in terms of both vote share as well as seats which raise hope for the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
