The Delhi High Court has sought NADA's response to Bajrang Punia’s plea challenging his suspension ahead of the Senior World Wrestling Championships. Punia disputes the doping charges, questioning NADA's use of expired kits and alleging procedural violations. The court set October 16 for the next hearing.
The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in response to wrestler Bajrang Punia’s petition challenging his suspension. Justice Sanjeev Narula presided over the case and set October 16 as the next hearing date.
Punia, who is set to miss the upcoming Senior World Wrestling Championships in Albania due to his suspension, claims the charges are baseless. His legal team, led by senior advocate Rajiv Dutta, argued that Punia never refused to provide a doping sample but demanded clarity on the use of expired testing kits in December 2023. Additionally, Punia’s plea highlights alleged procedural violations by NADA, including improper authorization of officials during selection trials.
The suspension was initially lifted on June 3 but was re-imposed on June 21. Punia's legal team seeks an independent investigation into NADA’s role in the matter, accusing the agency of negligence and misconduct.

NADA's counsel opposed the petition, claiming that a disciplinary panel had been constituted and the case was already under adjudication. According to NADA, Punia's petition disrupts the ongoing process, and the agency maintains that Punia refused to provide a sample when approached.
As the legal battle continues, Punia faces the risk of missing crucial competitions, which could force him into early retirement.
