Barpeta district in Assam is currently grappling with a severe flood situation, leaving approximately 43,000 individuals affected and causing significant devastation to the lives of farmers. The overflowing waters have submerged croplands and fisheries, resulting in colossal losses for the agricultural community.

Distraught by the impact, farmers shared their stories of despair, emphasizing the urgent need for government assistance to rebuild their lives.

Ratan Das, a farmer from the Barpeta district, expressed his anguish, stating, "I'm a farmer, and this flood has ruined my jute crop."

He further stated that his investment of Rs 15,000 in cultivation got washed by the flood. He urged the government to provide adequate help and support to overcome the setback.

As per the official bulletin released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 38,000 individuals in four districts continue to endure the severe consequences of the floods, despite a slight improvement in the situation on Thursday. The devastating effects of the floods persist, as reported by PTI.

While the death toll currently stands at seven, with no fresh casualties reported, the grim situation demands immediate attention and aid. To address the plight of the affected populace, the government has set up one relief camp in Kamrup district, providing shelter to four individuals, along with three relief distribution centers in two districts.

The aftermath of the floods paints a dire picture, with 253 villages still submerged in floodwaters and 1,526.08 hectares of crop areas severely damaged across the state, as confirmed by ASDMA.

Moreover, more than 32,000 domestic animals have also been affected by the widespread flooding, adding to the distress of the local communities.

Despite no rivers flowing above the danger mark, Assam continues to grapple with the aftermath of this calamity. The focus now rests on initiating rehabilitation efforts, restoring infrastructure, and providing substantial assistance to the affected farmers, ensuring their livelihoods are rebuilt, and they can regain stability in the face of this natural disaster.
