Art Director Nitin Desai's Death

Five members of the financial firm to which the late art director Nitin Desai owed money have been arrested on charges of abetment of suicide in connection with his suspicious death in his Karjat studio. Neha Desai, Nitin Desai's wife, filed a complaint with the police alleging that ECL Finance and Edelweiss Group workers pushed Nitin Desai to suicide over a financial dispute.

Police initially classified Neha Desai's death as an accident, but after receiving her complaint, they changed the case classification and filed a First Information Report under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (acts by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against the five accused employees of ECL Finance and Edelweiss Group and others.

Sub-divisional Police Officer Vikram Kadam is in charge of the investigation into the suicide aid case at Khalapur for the police department of Raigad.

Nitin Desai's company, ND's Art World, ran into financial difficulties after it was revealed that it had taken out two loans in 2016 and 2018 totaling Rs 150 crore and Rs 31 crore, respectively. The loan repayment had halted in January of 2020, and the epidemic only made matters worse. Unpaid interest brought the total sum owed to an unbelievable Rs 252 crore. The Edelweiss group was recently granted authorization to file corporate insolvency proceedings against ND Art World by the National Company Law Tribunal.

Atul Zende, additional superintendent of police in Raigad, has said that the suspects will be interviewed at the Khalapur police station. Eleven audio tapes that Nitin Desai had submitted to his lawyer Vrunda Kumbhar are also being analysed by forensics experts. These recordings are likely to be pivotal in the suicide-abetting prosecution.

Authorities are undertaking a thorough investigation to determine the role of the suspected employees in the untimely death of the talented art director, whose loss has sent shockwaves throughout the industry.
