The CBI court in Patna has begun
trying the notorious Fodder Scam case against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu
Prasad Yadav. There are 44 defendants in this high-profile case, including
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supreme leader Lalu Prasad Yadav.
As per sources, 76 witnesses have
been deposed at this point in the trial.
Lalu Prasad Yadav, R.K. Rana, Phoolchand Singh, Naukarshah Bank Julius, and former MP Jagdish Sharma are all accused of embezzling monies intended for livestock fodder in the 1996 case known as the Fodder Scam. Notably, 22 witnesses have now passed away, so their respective trials can be officially wrapped up.
While Lalu Prasad Yadav has
already faced convictions in some related cases, the proceedings for Case No.

withdrawal of Rs 46 lakh from the treasury of the Bhagalpur and Banka districts
based on fake documents.
The next hearing in this case is
scheduled for September 27th in the CBI's Special Court. Lalu Prasad Yadav is
expected to be present during the hearing, although security arrangements have
not been disclosed for safety reasons.
In addition, the CBI has received
authorization from the federal government to proceed with legal action against
former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the "Land for Jobs"
case. The Home Ministry must give its blessing before he may be prosecuted for
this matter, which occurred during his time as Railway Minister. The CBI has
also asked for and is awaiting approval to file charges against three
additional railway officers.
