Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has denied Donald Trump's claim that they were involved in an emergency helicopter landing together, calling it completely false. Trump doubled down on his story, despite California Governor Gavin Newsom also debunking the claim, suggesting that Trump may have confused Willie Brown with former Governor Jerry Brown.
Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has publicly refuted claims made by former President Donald Trump about a supposed emergency helicopter landing incident. During a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump recounted a story in which he and Brown were involved in an emergency helicopter landing. Trump claimed, "We thought maybe this is the end," describing how the incident allegedly unfolded.
However, Brown quickly denied the story, stating in a call with CNN, "I’ve never been in a helicopter with him in my life." He further accused Trump of fabricating the story to degrade Vice President Kamala Harris, who had a past relationship with Brown. Brown emphasized, "There is no reason why her name ought to be mentioned anywhere near his lies, period."

Adding to the confusion, a Trump campaign senior adviser pointed to a story from The New York Times, which suggested that Trump may have confused Willie Brown with former California Governor Jerry Brown. Trump had toured wildfire damage by helicopter with Jerry Brown in 2018. Despite this, Trump doubled down on his claim, insisting on his Truth Social platform that the incident happened in New Jersey with Willie Brown, not Jerry Brown.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was part of the 2018 wildfire tour, also debunked Trump’s story. Newsom told The Times, "I call complete B.S.," adding that the helicopter tour with Jerry Brown and Trump "didn’t go down."
