Government Inks Tripartite Agreement to Address Tripura Indigenous Issues

In a significant move to address the longstanding issues of Tripura's indigenous population, a tripartite agreement was inked involving the Indian government, the Tripura administration, and the Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (IPRA). The signing ceremony, which took place in New Delhi, witnessed the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Tripura Chief Minister.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Home Minister Amit Shah described the event as a historic milestone for Tripura. He emphasized the importance of honoring the region's history, rectifying past errors, and confronting present realities. This development followed a crucial meeting convened in New Delhi, attended by Tripura CM Manik Saha, opposition leader Pradyot Debbarma from Tripura Motha, and other senior officials. According to sources familiar with the matter, the meeting primarily focused on issues related to the indigenous populace of the northeastern state. State Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma highlighted the participation of key figures, including the Chief Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and representatives from allied political factions.

Expressing a collective commitment to indigenous welfare, Minister Bikash Debbarma extended an invitation to Pradyot Debbarma, affectionately referred to as 'Bubagra,' urging him to join hands in the endeavor. Meanwhile, Pradyot Debbarma, who had initiated a hunger strike demanding permanent solutions, remained in Delhi awaiting further developments.
