Gutka Baron Joshi Convicted for Assisting Gangster Dawood Ibrahim

Judgment of the Court On 10th of January 2023 (Tuesday), a special Court at Bombay constituted under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) convicted 3 people for 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The three convicted persons include Jamiruddin Ansari, Farukh Ansari and Gutka Baron JM Joshi. Apart from the conviction, all 3 have also been heavily fined for their connections with the underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim.   Gutka Baron Joshi Gutka Baron Joshi Background of the Case It was found by the Court that the Gutka king Joshi sent one of his employees to Pakistan undercover and kept him there for a period of three years in order to assist Dawood Ibrahim and Anees (brother of Dawood Ibrahim) in setting up gutka factories at Karachi, Pakistan. According to the special prosecutor for the case, the gutka factory to be set up in Pakistan was to be named “Fire Gutka” and Mr. Joshi was given the entire duty to set up the plant including machinery installation for large scale gutka manufacture in order to assist Dawood in earning a stable living in Pakistan. The Court has even found that convicted Mr. Joshi had extorted money from the complainant and wrongfully transported 4 gutka manufacturing machines worth Rs 2.64 lakh by taking them from the complainant forcefully. JM Joshi or Jagdishprasad Mohanlal Joshi, also known as the Gutka King or Gutka Baron, is the owner of the large Gutka company, Goa Gutka and has also worked at Manikchand Gutka Company for some time until he had an argument with late Rasiklal Dhariwal, the owner of Manikchand Gutka and also an accused in the current case. He has remained one of the close associates of don Dawood Ibrahim for a long time. Who is Dawood Ibrahim? Dawood Ibrahim is a wanted terrorist in India hailing from Dongri, Mumbai. He has been associated with several crimes such as murder, extortion, smuggling of drugs and many more. He has been declared to be a “terrorist” after his connections with the terrorist group of Al Qaeda were established. He is currently reported to be in hiding in Pakistan. Dawood Ibrahim was also allegedly involved in the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008 and India has demanded the handover of fugitive Dawood Ibrahim a number of times from Pakistan, however, Pakistan has paid no heed.
