Hardik Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh as Mumbai Indians penalized again for slow over-rate in IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants, their second such offence this season.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians, has been slapped with a fine of Rs 24 lakh following his team’s infringement of over-rate maintenance during their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. This is the second time this season that the five-time IPL champions have been charged with Code of Conduct infringement for poor minimum over-rate offence.
As per IPL statement, Pandya was given such a fine because it was Mumbai Indians’ second time in the season in which the offence was committed. MI's playing XI, including the team's impact player, was also penalized Rs. 6 lakh or the lesser between the match fee and 25% of the fee, whichever amount was smaller.
Eventually, the spoiling offence on the part of Mumbai wore thin and they lost their 7th game in 10, going down by 4 wickets against Lucknow. In 1st innings, MI was put into bat first and MI was not in a good position scoring 27/4, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma added 97 runs and MI reached a total of 144/7. While it was Stoinis the one who blasted 62 runs off 45 balls, LSG got to win with 4 balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians with their tails down now are at the bottom of the table with just 6 points after 10 games. Lucknow left behind Delhi who was in second place with their 6th win.
This has been a disastrous season for the usually strong Mumbai team who have consistently battled with an atrocious over-rate and the bat and ball issue. Pandya along with the rest of his teammates should try to get their acts together if they want to see a change of fortunes in their campaign.
