The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a revised schedule for the highly-anticipated World Cup 2023, with changes affecting a total of nine matches. The most awaited India vs Pakistan match, originally slated for October 15, has been preponed on October 14. The venue, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, remains unchanged, ensuring an electrifying encounter for cricket fans worldwide.
The alteration in the schedule comes following consultations with ten staging associations, including a request from a few ICC member boards involved in the World Cup. While concerns had been raised over security during the Navratri festivities, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah clarified that the India-Pakistan clash wasn't moved for security reasons.
Among the rescheduled matches, England and Bangladesh faced the most adjustments, with three of their fixtures being shifted or converted from day-night to day games. Pakistan's match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad was moved from October 12 to October 10, while Australia's showdown against South Africa in Lucknow was shifted from October 13 to October 12.
Furthermore, changes to the double-header encounters on November 12 led to Australia vs Pakistan being moved to November 11 in Pune, and England vs Pakistan shifting to November 11 in Kolkata. A notable shift involved Bangladesh's match against New Zealand, moved up a day to October 13 in Chennai and switched to a day-night contest.
The tournament's later stages remain unaffected, with the venue, timings, and dates of the semi-finals and final remaining the same. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host the first semi-final on November 15, followed by the second semi-final at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on November 16. The grand finale is set to be played at Ahmedabad on November 19.
Bengaluru is poised to witness a series of crucial encounters, including India's faceoff against the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma's Team India will kickstart their World Cup journey against Australia at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 8.
