India Issues Travel Advisory for Citizens in Cambodia Amid Border Clashes with Thailand

India has advised its citizens in Cambodia to avoid border areas amid escalating clashes with Thailand that have killed 33 people. The Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh has issued emergency contact details. The violence marks the deadliest border conflict between the two nations in over a decade, raising international concerns.

Amid escalating conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia has issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to steer clear of the countries’ shared border regions. The advisory comes as violent clashes, now in their third day, have claimed at least 33 lives and left dozens injured on both sides.

The Embassy advised Indian citizens to avoid traveling near the Cambodia-Thailand border due to ongoing artillery exchanges and airstrikes, marking the worst violence in the region in over a decade. “In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas,” the advisory stated.

Indian nationals in Cambodia have been directed to contact the Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh for any emergencies. A helpline number and email ID were shared to assist citizens amid the crisis. Similar advisories were also issued by the Indian Embassy in Thailand, emphasizing the volatile conditions near the border and recommending travelers monitor official Thai sources for updates.

The border dispute, which had remained largely dormant since a UN court ruling in 2013, flared up again in May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a skirmish. Since then, tensions have escalated dramatically, with artillery, tanks, and fighter jets now engaged in combat.

According to Cambodia’s defence ministry, the fighting has left 13 people dead and 71 injured in their country. Thailand has reported 20 deaths, including 14 civilians. This marks the bloodiest exchange since the 2008–2011 conflict, which previously claimed 28 lives.

Both countries are major tourist destinations, and the renewed violence has raised concerns over civilian safety and regional stability. The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on Friday, but no resolution has been reached yet.
