Shombi Sharp, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, has enthusiastically renamed India's G20 Presidency to the "SDG20 Presidency" in recognition of its commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sharp made this declaration during an event titled 'India-UN for Global South: Delivering for Development,' where a Letter of Intent was exchanged between UN-India and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

In his address, Sharp emphasized the significance of the SDGs as a universal path to peace and prosperity. He praised India's impact on SDG targets globally, particularly in the Global South, through its leadership at the G20. He hailed the unanimously agreed New Delhi Declaration, which places SDGs at its core, as the driving force behind the rebranding of India's G20 Presidency as "SDG20."
