India won the two tests series against West Indies, hosted by the latter on Monday, 24th July, 2023. Due to persistent rain on the final day of the second Test between India and West Indies in Port of Spain on Tuesday, the match concluded in a draw. As a result, India has secured victory in the two-match Test series, leading 1-0.
In the first innings of the second test, India posted a formidable total of 438 runs. Key contributions from Virat Kohli, who scored a century with 121 runs off 206 balls, along with half-centuries from skipper Rohit Sharma (80 off 143 balls), Yashasvi Jaiswal (57 off 74 balls), Ravindra Jadeja (61 off 152 balls), and Ravichandran Ashwin (56 off 78 balls) played a crucial role in achieving this impressive score.
In response to India's first innings total of 438, the West Indies team was dismissed for just 255 runs, trailing by 183 runs at that stage.
Captain Kraigg Brathwaite was the top-scorer for the West Indies, achieving a knock of 75 runs in 235 balls. Other notable contributions came from Alick Athanaze (37), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (33), and Kirk McKenzie (32) for the West Indies.
On the bowling front, Mohammed Siraj was India's standout performer, taking 5 wickets for 60 runs. Mukesh Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja secured two wickets each, while Ravichandran Ashwin claimed one wicket.
India made a declaration in their second innings at 181/2, with Ishan Kishan remaining unbeaten at 52 runs off 34 balls, and Shubman Gill contributing 29 runs. This set the West Indies a target of 365 runs to win.
Shannon Gabriel and Jomel Warrican managed to take a wicket each for the West Indies.
During India's innings, Rohit Sharma scored a quick 57 runs off 44 balls, and Yashasvi Jaiswal played a swift knock of 38 runs in just 30 balls. Impressively, India surpassed the 100-run mark in just 12.2 overs, setting the record for the fastest team to reach this milestone in Test cricket's history.
At the end of the day four's play, WI was at 76/2, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul (24*) and Jermaine Blackwood (20*).
WI had got off to a decent start, but then Ravichandran Ashwin (2/33) removed Kraigg Braithwaite (28) and Kirk McKenzie (0) to reduce WI to 44/2.
