PM Narendra Modi and his Cabinet resigned, paving the way for the formation of a new government after the BJP-led NDA's victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, though with a reduced majority.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers have resigned from their respective positions and have tendered their resignation to the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday to form the new government after the successful BJP-led NDA in the forthcoming 2024 General elections.
Modi also joined the President of Rashtrapati Bhavan where he recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha. The President accepted the resignation and asked Modi and his ministers to continue working until a new government is put in place.
This was after the Cabinet headed by Modi convened and agreed on the dissolution before the term of the Cabinet elapsed on June 16. Modi is poised to be inaugurated for the third term consecutively as the Prime Minister after the victory of the NDA with less number of seats compared to the previous election in 2019.
The BJP won 240 seats compared to the 303 it had got in the 2019 polls; the INIndianpposition got more than 230 seats. The Congress formed the government in the state assembly by winning 99 seats while in the previous year, 2019 it had only 52 seats. The two self-proclaimed king makers TDP and JDU have endorsed the NDA, and they are expected to send their letters of support today.
The media has reported that there is a plan to have an NDA meeting on June 7 to discuss the formation of government. The INDIA bloc will also be holding a meeting on June 5 regarding their next move since they are not an easy team to defeat.

Since Modi has received a third term for the party, the NDA has fewer numbers of seats, therefore the BJP needed support from allies such as Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and N. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP to provide a stable government.
