Israeli airstrikes in central Syria late Sunday killed four people and injured 13. The strikes targeted a scientific research center and other sites tied to Iranian militias. Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria, aiming to prevent Iran's military influence from expanding in the region.
Late Sunday, Israeli airstrikes hit various locations in central Syria, killing at least four and wounding 13, according to Syrian state media. The strikes ignited fires and caused damage in Hama province, with firefighting teams working into Monday to control the blazes.
One of the main targets, according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, was a scientific research center in Maysaf, where Iranian militias and experts are reportedly stationed for weapons development. Strikes were also reported around the coastal city of Tartous. The injured were taken to the Masyaf National Hospital, though it remains unclear if the victims were civilians or militants.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the attack. While Israel has launched hundreds of strikes in Syria over recent years, it rarely acknowledges these operations. The strikes are generally aimed at Iranian-backed groups and Syrian forces, as Israel seeks to prevent Iranian entrenchment in Syria, which serves as a key route for sending weapons to Hezbollah.
