According to an official from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), a supplementary chargesheet has been submitted against sixteen individuals, including a female, in relation to the arms and ammunition seizure case involving the CPI (Maoist) in Jharkhand. This move by the NIA brings the total count of accused individuals charged in the case to twenty-five since 2021.
This case revolves around the arrest of CPI (Maoist) operatives and the seizure of arms and ammunition in Peshrar, Lohardaga, Jharkhand. Local police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on February 21 last year, and the NIA took over on June 14, 2022.
Afterward, the NIA conducted raids in Bulbul forest area, where CPI (Maoist) Regional Commander Ravindra Ganjhu and others had assembled to plot violent attacks against security forces and in the Bauxite Mines region.
A joint operation by local police and the CRPF saw the CPI (Maoist) cadres firing on security forces during their route to Bahabar Jungle, Harkatta Toli, and Bangla Pat in Jharkhand.
Subsequent searches in the area where the gunfire occurred resulted in the discovery of a significant cache of arms, explosives, and ammunition.
NIA investigations have unveiled that CPI (Maoist) members and armed cadres conspired to carry out violent and unlawful activities with the aim of destabilizing India's security and democratic government. Their plan was to commit acts of terrorism and violence.
Further inquiries revealed that CPI (Maoist) top commanders and armed cadres formed a conspiracy between August and September 2022 at Budha Pahar. They intended to retaliate against the arrest of senior leader Prashant Bose by conducting terrorist acts against security forces and the police.
The accused individuals were charged under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, CLA Act, and UA(P) Act.
Earlier, on May 18, 2021, Jharkhand police had charged nine accused with various offenses under the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, CLA Act, and UA(P) Act.
