Kota, Rajasthan: One More Student Killed Herself; Suicide Count Reaches 23 in 2023

A 16-year-old girl from Ranchi, who was preparing for the NEET exam, sadly took her own life by hanging herself in her hostel room in Kota’s Vigyan Nagar area on Tuesday night.

 

Richa Sinha, who was in the 11^th grade, had come to Kota for coaching for the medical entrance exam earlier this year. This marks the 23^rd case of a student from coaching centers in Kota taking their own life this year, which is the highest number in the past nine years. In 2022, there were 15 such cases.

 

The police officer, ASI Amar Chand from Vigyan Nagar police station, mentioned that they didn’t find any suicide note in the girl’s hostel room. They will investigate to understand why she took such a drastic step.

 

The autopsy will be done when Richa’s family arrives. The police were informed about the incident around 10:30 pm on Tuesday by the private hospital where she was taken. A police team went to the hospital and moved her body to the mortuary.

 

According to a news agency, every year, more than 2.5 lakh students come to Kota to prepare for competitive exams like the Joint Entrance Exam for Engineering and the NEET for medical college admissions.
