In a historic move, the Lok Sabha, on Wednesday, successfully passed the Women's Reservation Bill, ushering in a significant change in India's political landscape.
The bill, which grants 33 per cent of parliamentary seats to women in both Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, received resounding support, with 454 Members of Parliament voting in favor, while only two opposed it.
During the compelling debate that preceded the vote, Home Minister Amit Shah made a heartfelt appeal to the opposition for the unanimous passage of the women's reservation bill.
He emphasized that any shortcomings within the legislation could be addressed at a later date.
Addressing concerns about potential delays in implementing the bill, Shah assured that the next government would swiftly undertake the census and delimitation processes immediately following elections.
