Madras High Court on Monday suspended the imprisonment of IAS officer Pradeep Yadav along with two others facing contempt charges for their failure to comply with court directives during Pradeep Yadav's tenure as the Principal Secretary to the School Education Department.
The decision to suspend the sentence came from a division bench comprising of Justice SS Sundar and Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy while hearing an appeal preferred against the order of the single judge.
The single judge found them guilty of non-compliance with a court order to regularise an employee's services, leading to the contempt charges. Despite offering an unconditional apology, the court rejected it, concerned that leniency in such cases might set an unfavourable precedent for other government officials.
The court also highlighted significant delays in the regularisation of services and the settlement of monetary benefits, further exacerbating the situation. However, the division bench opted for the suspension of the imprisonment order while awaiting further legal proceedings. This decision brings momentary relief to IAS officer Pradeep Yadav and his co-accused as they and their supporters keenly monitor the developments in the ongoing legal process.
