On Saturday, 21st July, 2023, heavy rains caused severe waterlogging in several areas of Maharashtra. 


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts on Sunday. Additionally, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in isolated places in Mumbai for Sunday. 


Bhiwandi experienced severe water-logging due to heavy rainfall, resulting in cars being partially submerged in water.


The Indian Air Force carried out a rescue operation in Yavatmal as numerous people were stranded in Anand Nagar village due to flooding, on Saturday.


Yavatmal collector Amol Yedge reported that the district witnessed a flood-like situation in several areas, with 240 mm of rainfall recorded on that day. Thanks to the joint efforts of the State Disaster Response Force and the Indian Air Force, they successfully shifted 219 stranded individuals from various locations to safety.

On Wednesday, at around 11 PM, a landslide struck the tribal village  situated on a hill slope in Khalapur tehsil, Raigad district which is about 80 km from Mumbai.


The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) persisted with its search and rescue operations in the landslide-affected area of Irshalwadi in Raigad, on Saturday. An initial team of NDRF arrived at the site early in the morning, and additional teams are anticipated to join the search operation later on Sunday. 


Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh, Defence PRO Nagpur, stated that based on the requisition of the District administration, one Mi-17 V5 helicopter was being inducted from Nagpur to evacuate 40 people who were stranded due to floods in Yavatmal district.


Due to intense rainfall in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, on Friday night, numerous residential areas in the district were flooded, and water seeped into several houses on Saturday.

According to locals, the rain persisted for approximately four hours during the night, and they woke up to find streets submerged and rainwater entering their homes.


A local reported, as per ANI, that it had started raining heavily around midnight, and when they woke up in the morning, they found their house submerged in water. The water had entered their house, affecting their furniture, including the sofa, fridge, and ration, all of which got submerged in the water.


Shiv Sena stated that in the Irshalwadi landslide, several children tragically lost both their parents. In response, CM Eknath Shinde has announced his decision to adopt these children and become their guardian. The CM has further declared that the Shrikant Shinde Foundation will take care of these orphaned kids aged between 2 and 14 years.
