The West Bengal CM heaps criticism on BJP during a public rally, alleging a secret plot to get rid of or incarcerate the opposition.
Kolkata, April 23, 2024: Today Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister, came out with guns blazing to fiercely criticize the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as she asserted that Abhishek Banerjee, her nephew, would have been shot dead had he met the man who was accused of conducting a recce at his Kolkata residence recently.
With a mass gathering in her home state, Banerjee accused BJP of plotting against her and her family. "One of the traitors in the BJP called the knife attack to be an act by a bomb. If you have a grudge against me you can kill me with a bomb. You even tried to kill Abhishek but we came to know in advance," she thundered.
The top leader of TMC claimed that the BJP cadre forced Abhishek on FaceTime arranged appointment. “He even made a recce at Abhishek’s house, called him on FaceTime and asked for an appointment, Banerjee claimed. Had Abhishek not given him some time, then he would have shot him.”
The agitation of the actress happened just days after Kolkata Police arresting a Mumbai-based man by the name of Rajaram Rege on the charges of surveillance near Abhishek's residence. Police stated that Rege met David Headley who had participated in a terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008, and that there could be a plan to reproduce "something like 26/11".
Mamata went on a rampage against BJP, stating that the party was killing opponents and even wanting to imprison them. "These people were either killing or jailing those who are speaking against them. So, if you were confident that you can win with people's votes, then what was the need to scare people," she questioned.

The chief minister asked leaders, workers and supporters not to let their guard down, as the party was allegedly being conspired against. In the Sunday edition, she said the party (BJP) has been plotting against their family with a clear warning " we are not safe, but not afraid".
The BJP has not yet offered any counter-argument to Mamata Banerjee's allegations. The apprehension of the man allegedly for "recce" has added fuel to the fire of political unrest in West Bengal, as the state is anxiously waiting for the Panchayat polls which are scheduled later this year.
