In a harrowing incident in Odisha's Ganjam district, a 25-year-old man, identified as K Ganesh Patra, faced arrest following the tragic demise of his wife, K Basanti Patra, and their two-year-old daughter. The shocking event unfolded when the man released a venomous King Cobra into their room, leading to their fatal snakebite injuries.

The suspect, amidst a marital dispute, executed a premeditated act of horror. On the night of October 6, he introduced a cobra, concealed within a plastic jar, into the sleeping quarters of his wife and daughter. The following morning, both victims were discovered lifeless, succumbing to snakebites, while the perpetrator slept in an adjacent room.

Initially considered an unnatural death case, the investigation took a startling turn during the questioning of the woman's father, revealing a meticulously planned homicide orchestrated by K Ganesh Patra. The couple wedded in 2020, and shared a daughter named Debasmita, tragically taken in this appalling event.

The accused had deceptively obtained the snake from a serpent charmer, misleading him by fabricating intentions for religious purposes. The delayed evidence gathering led to the arrest a month after the tragedy. Initially denying involvement, the suspect shifted to a false narrative, suggesting the snake's independent entry, before eventually confessing to the heinous crime.

The Superintendent of Police affirmed the arrest and ongoing investigations, highlighting the culprit's confession. This abominable act has left the community in shock, shedding light on the intricate investigation into this calculated and heartrending crime.
