The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, addressed the recent wave of violence in the state during a press conference on Thursday. Following a fresh case of violence that occurred on Wednesday, resulting in nine deaths and 10 injuries, the government is actively engaging in discussions at multiple levels to address the situation. While acknowledging that the immediate improvement of the situation might not be possible, the Chief Minister noted that incidents of violence have been gradually decreasing in the state. He expressed understanding towards the emotions of the affected individuals who have suffered loss of loved ones and property, stating that it takes time to restore normalcy. However, he highlighted the government's efforts in collaboration with the people to reduce violence in the region.

CM Biren Singh assured that a combing operation has been initiated to identify the culprits responsible for the recent incidents. He emphasized the government's commitment to upholding the law of the land and bringing the perpetrators to justice. The violence in Manipur has been ongoing since May, triggered by clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) against the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

In response to the prevailing situation, the Manipur High Court had directed the state government to consider including the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes list. The government extended the internet ban in the state until June 15 as a precautionary measure. Home Minister Amit Shah also visited Manipur in late May, holding meetings with various stakeholders and announcing measures to restore Peace, including the formation of a peace committee.

As Manipur continues to grapple with the aftermath of the violence, the state government, in collaboration with Law enforcement agencies and community leaders, is actively working towards achieving peace and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
