Following a fatal encounter in Manipur’s Jiribam district, two men were found dead, and six people remain missing. Security forces are searching for the missing and maintaining order amid ongoing ethnic tensions between Meitei and Kuki communities.
Two men were found dead in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Tuesday, a day after a deadly encounter that left 10 militants killed. Following the incident, security forces have been deployed in vulnerable areas, and prohibitory orders have been issued to prevent further violence. According to police, three women and three children have been missing since the gunfight.
The bodies of the deceased, identified as Laishram Balen and Maibam Kesho, were recovered from debris in Jakuradhor Karong, where militants had set fire to local shops on Monday. In response to the violence, a shutdown was observed in Kuki-Zo majority areas, protesting the killings.
The encounter began when militants, reportedly dressed in camouflage and armed with advanced weaponry, fired indiscriminately at a local police station and a nearby CRPF camp in Jiribam, injuring two CRPF personnel. Police have been conducting search operations to locate the missing people and maintain peace in the area.
