Renowned for his compelling portrayal of Chanakya, Manish Wadhwa is poised to take on the role of an antagonist in Sunny Deol's forthcoming venture, Gadar 2. Exuding confidence, he anticipates a dichotomy of adoration for the film and disdain for his character from viewers. In an exclusive interaction with indianexpress.com, Manish humorously remarked, "In times gone by, the screen might have witnessed a shower of slippers."
Fate played its hand in Manish Wadhwa securing the role, a tale he shared with candor. During a conversation with action director Ravi Verma, who had previously collaborated with Manish on a south Indian film, the subject of finding a villain for Gadar 2 arose in the presence of director Anil Sharma. Ravi, remembering his past work with Manish, promptly showcased his acting clips, paving the way for a pivotal meeting.
"I approached the meeting with palpable enthusiasm," Manish recounted, noting that while he was recognized as Chanakya, Gadar held significant importance. The prospective involvement of Sunny Deol in the casting discussions heightened the intrigue. "In our initial rendezvous, the pieces fell into place seamlessly," Manish reflected, marveling at how a single project can snowball into a monumental opportunity.
Subsequently, he revealed that despite initial discussions with another actor, circumstances didn't align, ultimately paving the fortuitous path for Manish. Grasping the magnitude of landing a role in such a substantial film, Manish considered it nothing short of a blessing. Venturing into the shoes of the iconic Amrish Puri stirred a mix of nervousness and excitement within the actor. "Amrish Puri's irreplaceable aura is universally acknowledged by the film fraternity and its ardent admirers," Manish acknowledged, aware of the daunting task ahead.
A conversation with Sunny paaji further underscored the weight of the responsibility. "Sunny paaji recognized my capabilities, yet underscored the unique demands of Gadar and the absence of formidable antagonists in the industry. Expressing my earnest commitment, I vowed to give my utmost and collaborate seamlessly with their guidance. Evidently, my sincerity resonated with him, culminating in the organic unfolding of events."
Echoing Sunny Deol's astute observation, the current landscape witnesses actors venturing into anti-hero roles, leading to a discernible void in the realm of antagonists. Notably, Manish Wadhwa, who notably embraced a villainous persona in Pathaan, expressed his conviction in bridging this gap. Drawing from conversations with both Sunny paaji and Anil ji, he gleaned insights into the industry's dearth of impactful villains. Confident in his ability to address this vacuum, Manish remarked, "I ardently believe that my portrayal in Gadar 2 will resonate with audiences, thereby solidifying my position in this niche."
