In a shocking incident on the outskirts of Hyderabad, a group of eight men forcefully entered a house and allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl on August 22.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with opposition leaders demanding severe punishment for the perpetrators.
The victim and her 14-year-old brother, who recently lost their parents, had sought refuge with their cousin in Meerpet. Tragically, they were at home with three other children from the neighborhood when the assailants, armed with knives, broke in.
While three men took the girl upstairs and assaulted her, the others held her brother and the other children at knifepoint. The police are actively investigating the case and have formed special teams to apprehend the accused. Such heinous acts must be met with swift justice to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
After news of the horrific crime spread, a significant number of people, including Congress workers led by Mayor Parijatha Reddy, staged a protest by blocking the main road near the survivor's house in Meerpet.
Subsequently, the police arrested Reddy and other party leaders, transferring them to the Amberpet police station. To maintain law and order, additional police personnel have been deployed. Rachakonda Police Commissioner DS Chauhan also visited the scene.
LB Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police B Sai Sree stated that seven special police teams have been formed to apprehend the perpetrators. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act for the gangrape of a minor.
The DCP mentioned that the girl has been sent to the Sakhi center for a medical examination and to provide her statement. When the girl cried for help, the accused fled the scene, prompting her brother to alert the neighbors who then contacted the police. The police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the accused, but they have not been apprehended yet.
Additionally, they are investigating if there was any prior animosity between the accused and the victim's family. The girl's younger brother, who filed a formal complaint, shared that they used to live with their parents in Lal Bazar area and moved in with their cousin after their parents' demise. He works at a flex board shop while his sister is employed as a salesgirl at a textile shop in Dilsukhnagar.
