PM Modi mocked Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from Rae Bareli instead of Amethi, alleging he's running scared of losing Wayanad, and challenged him to fight in the family bastion.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made many cutting remarks at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the 13th of September, asking for his decision to contest from Rae Bareli instead of Amethi, which is his family’s hometown. While wooing the audience in West Bengal, Modi specified that Gandhi was shifting from Rae Bareli to Wayanad because he was daunted by victory in 2019.

"I had said, even before the voting ended in Wayanad, that the prince was going to lose there. I had said that to start looking for another seat," Modi was saying, referring to his past remarks. "He is too terrified of Amethi, he is now towards Rae Bareli."

The Prime Minister blew the fire and asked the Wayanad MP to try there in Amethi and not to be a coward. "They ask everyone 'dare mat' (don't be scared). Today, I also ask them, 'Dare mat, bhago mat' (don't be scared, don't run)," he said.

Modi further said that he did not fault Sonia Gandhi for deciding to substitute the Rae Bareli seat by going to the Upper House. "I told in the Parliament that their biggest leader will not be able to fight elections and she will run away. She actually ran away to Rajasthan, claimed the Rajya Sabha, and got elected from the Rajasthan."

Finally, after much speculation, the Congress president's name in the Rajya Sabha elections was announced on Friday. It was disclosed that Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Rae Bareli, while his loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma will contest from Amethi.

Amethi was once the Nehru-Gandhi family's stronghold with its MP being elected from this family as; Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi in the earlier days. Nevertheless, in 2019, he had a shocking defeat by the BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi, though he won his other constituency of Wayanad.

Amethi and Rae Bareli will also hold elections on the same date. This is the fifth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
