North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has replaced Chief of the
General Staff Pak Su Il with General Ri Yong Gil in the face of rising war
fears. The decision was issued during a meeting of the Central Military
Commission and calls for increased military training and a larger manufacturing
of weaponry. According to KCNA, the Korean news agency, Kim outlined actions to
take against unknown enemies.
Kim also called for an increase in weapons production capacity, without providing specifics. Kim recently pointed to Seoul and its environs on a map, as seen in recently released photos by KCNA.
The United States has claimed that North Korea supplied
Russia with weapons for its invasion of Ukraine, a claim both Russia and North
Korea have denied. In light of these events, Kim has ordered military drills
using cutting-edge equipment to ensure the service is always ready for battle.
On September 9 North Korea will hold a parade of its
militia to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Republic. The
paramilitary groups that strengthen the country's armed forces are being
highlighted in this march.
The United States and South Korea have scheduled
simultaneous military drills for August 21st to the 24th. These exercises are
seen as a threat to North Korean security. Kim's recent actions and directives,
in light of these developments, are consistent with a leader who is
increasingly concerned about regional security and national preparation.
