In a major political step, the I.N.D.I.A., an opposition alliance in India, announced the 13 members of its coordination committee on Friday.

The committee, made up of well-known leaders from different parties, has been tasked with organizing the alliance's activities in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Opposition parties in India unveil a 13-member coordination committee, but withhold the convener's name, amidst opposition to 'one nation, one election' proposal.

Key regional and national party leaders are represented on the committee, such as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal. Notably, a CPI(M) member will be joining the committee very soon.

This committee will be essential in setting the opposition alliance's national agenda, shared campaign issues, and programme outlines. However, the identity of the convener was left out of the announcement, which has led to much speculation and expectation.

Before the unveiling of the coordination committee, I.N.D.I.A had postponed the introduction of its logo due to last-minute design alterations suggested by constituent party leaders. This delay highlights the ongoing discussions and cooperation-building within the alliance.

13-Member Coordination Committee
The committee, made up of well-known leaders from different parties, has been tasked with organizing the alliance's activities in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

The leaders of the alliance met informally to discuss how to best challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the approaching elections, and from those discussions, this committee was formed.

Meanwhile, opposition party leaders have criticized the center's plan to investigate 'one nation, one election,' seeing it as an attempt to call snap elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called the I.N.D.I.A. bloc a "selfish alliance," claiming that it serves only to safeguard the interests of powerful families among its member parties while highlighting the successes of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Undoubtedly, the withheld appointment of the convener and the opposition's united stance against 'one nation, one election' will be subjects of careful attention and conjecture as the political landscape continues to change in the coming days.
