After a couple in China's Hunan province made their child watch television all night as punishment for watching too much television, a debate over parenting methods broke out.

The child was reportedly given homework that he had to finish within a certain amount of time after being left alone in the house by his parents.

However, when they got home, they discovered that their son had not finished his homework because he had been watching TV. As a result, the boy was ordered to spend the entire night watching TV by his parents. In order to keep the child awake, they even took turns watching over him.

Before getting tired and crying, the boy was initially calm and enjoyed snacks while watching television.

According to the report, he was not allowed to go to bed until 5 am. On Chinese social media, the incident drew criticism, sparking a discussion about parenting.

"I experienced a similar thing. The South China Morning Post cited a social media user as saying, "After taking our three-year-old son, who is a fan of KFC, to eat hamburgers and chicken for three days, now his enthusiasm has gone.

Another user commented that the child was given very strict punishment, and what if the boy starts to get used to staying up late?

Prior to now, legislation on family education promotion was adopted in China as a result of the problem of strict parenting. In accordance with the law, if prosecutors discovered any criminal or "very bad behavior" in their children, the parents or guardians could be reprimanded and made to participate in family education guidance programs. The use of "violence" by parents to teach their children appropriate behavior is also forbidden by law.
