In a recent incident on the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur rail section at Bhagwanpur rail late on Sunday night, passengers on board the Mumbai-bound Pawan Express had a miraculous escape when the train continued to run for 10 kilometers despite having a broken wheel.
The terrifying incident occurred shortly after the train departed from Muzaffarpur railway station in Bihar. According to the passengers, a loud noise was heard in the S-11 coach, signaling an underlying issue. However, when the train made a stop at Bhagwanpur railway station, no efforts were made to identify the problem.
As the speeding train left the station, the concerned passengers took matters into their own hands and pulled the emergency chain to bring the train to a halt. They immediately informed the driver, guard, and other railway employees about the situation.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that one of the wheels in the S-11 coach had broken. Railway engineers and employees promptly arrived at the scene and repaired the damaged wheel, ensuring the safety of the passengers. Virendra Kumar, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the east central railway in Hajipur, confirmed the incident and assured that the issue was resolved without delay.
"We received reports of a broken wheel in Pawan Express, and our team quickly arrived at the site to rectify the error," stated Virendra Kumar, CPRO of east central railway in Hajipur.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring passenger safety during train journeys. While the Indian Railways have been actively working towards enhancing safety measures, recent near-crash incidents highlight the need for continued vigilance and maintenance efforts to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
