After receiving a letter requesting the company to explain why it shouldn't be held in contempt of court for allegedly failing to comply with an undertaking that was presented before the top court on November 21, 2023, Patanjali Ayurveda has unequivocally apologized to the Supreme Court.

Patanjali pledges apology

On March 19, Baba Ramdev and the company's managing director, Acharya Balkrishna, were summoned in person by a group of Supreme Court Justices, Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah. The company is accused by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) of breaking parts of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, and of making remarks that are derogatory of allopathy. The petition was submitted by the IMA.

As a result of the corporation's announcement on November 21, 2023, that it would refrain from making any "casual statements claiming medicinal efficacy or against any system of medicine," the court declared that the company's December 4, 2023, advertisement was unacceptable. In addition, the advertisement debuted on December 4, 2023.

In response to the notice, Acharya Balkrishna used an affidavit in which he expressed his remorse that the advertising in question, meant to contain just generic statements, had accidentally included lines deemed insulting.

In accordance with the affidavit, "The Deponent, on behalf of Respondent No. 5 (PatanjaliAyurved), submits an unqualified apology before this Honourable Court for the breach of the statement recorded in Paragraph 3 of the order dated 21.11.2023." Balkrishna further attempted to persuade the court by saying that he "will make certain that advertisements of this nature are not issued in the future."
