On the 10th anniversary of the 'Make in India' initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the campaign's significant impact on the country's manufacturing sector and its ascent in the global economic landscape. Launched in 2014, the initiative aimed to bolster domestic production and reduce reliance on imports, and Modi termed its progress a "roaring success."
In a recent LinkedIn post, Modi highlighted how the campaign has transformed India from an import-dependent nation to an emerging manufacturing hub. He commended the contributions of Indian citizens, whom he referred to as pioneers and innovators, stating, "The impact of 'Make in India' shows that Bharat is unstoppable."
One of the standout achievements noted by Modi is the remarkable growth in mobile manufacturing, which has surged from just two units a decade ago to over 200 today. Mobile exports skyrocketed from ₹1,556 crore to an astounding ₹1.2 lakh crore, marking a phenomenal increase of 7,500%. With 99% of mobile phones in India now produced domestically, the country has secured its position as the second-largest mobile manufacturer worldwide.
Additionally, Modi pointed to advancements in various sectors, including steel, semiconductors, renewable energy, and electric vehicles, emphasizing India’s emergence as a net exporter of finished steel. He remarked on the substantial investments in semiconductor manufacturing, which have reached over ₹1.5 lakh crore.
