PM Modi's gifts to President Macron: Epitome of Indian culture and Heritage

PM Modi in his
two day official visit to France joined the French President Emmanuel Macron at
the Bastille Day celebrations as guest of honor. He also met other French
dignitaries including the Prime Minister, President of French National Assembly
and President of the French Senate.
After receiving a
number of gifts from the French President PM Modi presented gifts to not only
the President but all the dignitaries he met during the visit. Here's a list of
gifts presented by the PM depicting the rich cultural heritage of India:
1. Sandalwood Sitar to French President Emmanuel Macron:
The unique
replica of the musical instrument Sitar is made of pure sandalwood. The piece
embodies carvings of Goddess Saraswati, symbolizing music and knowledge, Lord
Ganesha, symbolizing wisdom and obstacle remover, followed by two peacocks,
national bird of India. The sitar is adorned with intricate carvings representing
Indian craftsmanship. The art of sandalwood carving is an exquisite and ancient
craft that has been practiced in Southern India for centuries.
2. Pochampally Ikat in Sandalwood Box to France's First Lady Brigitte Macron:
As the name
suggests the Pochampally silk Ikat fabric hails from the town of Pochampally in
Telangana, India. The fabric is a mesmerizing testament to India's rich textile
heritage. Pochampally silk is renowned for its vibrant colors and intricate
designs. The saree was presented in a beautiful sandalwood box, encapsulating
the beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage of India, making it a true
treasure in the world of textiles.
3. 'Marble Inlay Work Table' to Élisabeth Borne, Prime Minister of France:
The 'Marble Inlay
Work' is done on marble by procuring semi-precious stones on it and making it
one of the most attractive art works done on marble. The base marble for the
gifted table was from Makrana town, Rajasthan and the stones hail from
different parts of Rajasthan and India.
4. 'Hand knitted 'Silk Kashmiri Carpet' to Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the French National Assembly:
The beautiful
interior decorating piece from Kashmir is famous for its softness and
craftsmanship all over the world. The color of hand-knitted silk carpet and its
knotted details differentiate it from any other carpet. Often the color range
varies from day to night thus giving an illusion of two different carpets at
different times.
5. 'Sandalwood Hand Carved Elephant Ambavari' to Gerard Larcher, President of the French Senate:
The meticulously
carved figure made of pure sandalwood (fragrant) represents the majesty of this
magnificent organism. The beautifully carved piece serves as a reminder of
harmony between nature, culture and art. The sandalwood elephant symbolizes
wisdom, strength and good fortune in Indian culture.
