This date, marking the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, is observed every year as Parakram Diwas. Gesture by PM Narendra Modi on Parakram Diwas 2023 PM Narendra Modi via a video conference, named 21 islands at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after the names of 21 awardees of the Param Vir Chakra to honor Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated a memorial at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep which was earlier known as the Ross Island. Arun Khetrapal; Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon; Major Ramaswamy Parameswaran; Naib Subedar Bana Singh; Captain Vikram Batra; Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey; Subedar Major (then Rifleman) Sanjay Kumar; and Subedar Major Retd (Honorary Captain) Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav. Significance of the Andaman Nicobar Islands on Parakram Diwas 80 years ago, that is in 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had hoisted the tricolour flag at the Andaman Nicobar islands.
