Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the uproar over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar, accusing the Congress of hypocrisy and a history of disrespecting the architect of India’s Constitution. In a post on X, Modi stated that Shah had exposed Congress’ "dark history" during a Rajya Sabha session.

“The Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their lies can hide their history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar,” Modi said, accusing the party of repeated attempts to undermine Ambedkar’s legacy. He cited examples, including Congress’ denial of the Bharat Ratna to Ambedkar and their refusal to display his portrait in Parliament’s Central Hall during their tenure.

The controversy began when Shah remarked that invoking Ambedkar’s name had become a "fashion" for Congress leaders, provoking backlash. Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were among those who criticized Shah, accusing the BJP of undermining Ambedkar’s principles. Kharge claimed that BJP leaders’ views aligned with Manusmriti, not the Constitution, and reiterated Ambedkar’s significance for marginalized communities.

In his post, Modi highlighted Congress’ alleged failure to address systemic violence and oppression against Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) during their regimes. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to Ambedkar’s vision, contrasting it with what he called Congress’ tokenism.
