Three major shooters linked to the notorious criminal Sonu Khatri have been caught in a combined operation by the Anti-criminal Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police and central agencies. An official declaration acknowledged Sonu Khatri's strong relationship with terrorist Harvinder Rinda.

Sukhmanjot Singh alias Sukhman Brar, originally from New Deol Nagar in Jalandhar, Jaskaran Singh alias Jassi Lodhipur, originally from the village of Lodhipur in SBS Nagar, and Jograj Singh alias Joga, originally from the village of Pholriwal in Jalandhar, have all been arrested and named by the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav. Three high-tech.32 bore handguns made in a foreign country were also seized from their hands during the operation.

Sukhman Brar was caught at the Indo-Nepal Border as he tried to cross into Nepal in an intelligence-driven operation. Gurugram, Haryana police captured the two other shooters. The authorities in Kathmandu, Nepal, uncovered the group as they were forging documents to use as passports in an attempt to flee the country.

The suspects have been linked to at least five homicides, including the March 2022 murders in Makhan, Nawanshahr. They are also suspected in five other significant crimes, such as extortion, carjacking, and four instances of attempted murder. They also took part in a daytime gunfight at Zirakpur's Metro Plaza.

According to the operation's lead AIG Sandeep Goel, initial inquiries have revealed the shooters' mode of operation. Following the commission of their horrific crimes in Punjab at the behest of Gangster Sonu Khatri, they sought safety in hideouts across the country and in Nepal. Sonu Khatri, the foreign handler, arranged for the shooters to use these safehouses and paid them on a regular basis through Hawala.

The continuous efforts of law enforcement to combat organised crime and apprehend those participating in such operations are bolstered by this latest development. More work is being put in to uncover the inner workings of this criminal organization's network and operations.
