In a police encounter in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, Anuj Pratap Singh, a key suspect in a ₹1.5 crore jewellery heist, was shot dead. Singh, carrying a ₹1 lakh bounty, was killed while attempting to flee. His death follows a series of controversial police actions, sparking political allegations of bias.
In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force (STF) reported the death of Anuj Pratap Singh, a key suspect in a ₹1.5 crore jewellery heist in Sultanpur. Singh was killed during an exchange of gunfire with the police in Unnao on Monday. According to Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General, STF, Singh attempted to flee on a motorcycle after police cornered him in Kuluhagadh. He opened fire, which led to a retaliatory response by the police. Singh was later declared dead at the district hospital.
The STF revealed that Singh carried a ₹1 lakh bounty on his head and was a crucial figure in the August 28 robbery case. His accomplice managed to escape during the encounter. Authorities recovered weapons and stolen items at the scene, further linking Singh to the heist.
Eight individuals have already been arrested in connection with the robbery, while four others remain at large. Vinay Singh, the alleged mastermind, surrendered to the authorities, and another suspect, Mangesh Yadav, was shot dead earlier this month.
