Satyaprem Ki Katha" Outshines "Shehzada" on Day 1 at the Box Office !

Satyaprem Ki Katha

Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani's film "Satyaprem Ki Katha" made its theatrical debut on Thursday, coinciding with the occasion of Eid. However, despite the holiday release, the film fell short of reaching double-digit figures on its first day. Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the Sameer Vidwans-directed film collected an estimated Rs 9 crore nett in India. While this number is slightly better than Kartik's previous release "Shehzada," which opened at Rs 6 crore according to Bollywood Hungama, it falls within the same range as Kiara's last theatrical outing, "JugJugg Jeeyo," which earned Rs 9.28 crore on its opening day.

"Satyaprem Ki Katha" marks the sixth-highest opening of the year, following the successes of "Pathaan," "Adipurush," "Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan," "Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar," and "Bholaa." However, despite a promising start, the film failed to maintain its momentum. While it secured the fifth position among these openers, Ajay Devgn's film managed to earn Rs 11.20 crore domestically on its first day, but ultimately fell short of meeting expectations.

Kartik's previous release, "Shehzada," which was a Hindi remake of the popular Telugu film "Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo," proved to be a disappointment for the actor. Throughout its theatrical run, the film could only accumulate a total collection of Rs 32.20 crore. On the other hand, "JugJugg Jeeyo" fared better, managing to achieve a lifetime collection of Rs 85.03 crore. The film, which featured Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Varun Dhawan alongside Kartik, enjoyed a more favorable response from audiences and performed comparatively well at the box office.

The dynamic duo of Kiara and Kartik proved their winning streak with their last film together, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2." In a year marked by challenges for Hindi movies, where only a few managed to thrive at the box office, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" emerged as a hit. The film embarked on its box office journey with an impressive opening of Rs 14.11 crore, and went on to achieve a remarkable total collection of Rs 185.92 crore during its theatrical run. The film's success showcased the strong chemistry between Kiara and Kartik, leaving a lasting impact on audiences and solidifying their position in the industry.

Shubhra Gupta from The Indian Express awarded "Satyaprem Ki Katha" a rating of 2 stars in her review. In her critique, she mentioned, "Beneath the convoluted and exaggerated storyline of the Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani-led film, there lies a genuine portrayal of two individuals grappling with their troubled pasts. However, this aspect gets overshadowed by the abundance of other elements that the movie bombards us with."
