Stunt Choreographer 'Kanal' Kannan Arrested by Tamil Nadu Police for Offensive Tweet

'Kanal' Kannan, a stunt choreographer, was taken into custody by the Tamil Nadu police in Kanyakumari on the suspicion that he had sent an offensive tweet about  Christianity.

Austin Bennet, an appointed organiser for the DMK IT Wing, lodged a complaint against Kannan, accusing him of spreading a distorted video on Twitter. This led to Kannan's detention shortly after the complaint was submitted. Bennet stated that Kannan put a nasty statement in the video in order to disparage Christianity. According to the allegations, the video showed a priest engaging with a young woman.

On July 10, the inquiry was opened by the Cyber Crime Wing of the police, and Kannan was called in for interrogation at that time. After being questioned for a number of hours, he was taken into custody at about seven o'clock in the evening. Because of his remarks, this is not the first time that Kannan has run into difficulty with the law. The previous year, he was taken into custody as a result of a complaint lodged by a Dravidian organisation on the remarks that he had made against the rationalist leader Periyar EV Ramasamy.
