A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir's Bandipora district. The operation follows a high-level meeting chaired by Amit Shah to address the recent surge in terrorist activities in the Jammu region.
One terrorist was eliminated in an operation which was under progress in the Aragam area of the Bandipora district in North Kashmir, as per the police sources in a report on Monday morning. The incident started on the Sunday evening when the police received a tip off that there were two terrorists in the area.
The corpse of the killed terrorist was later found with the assistance of a drone but the identity of the killed terrorist was not revealed. Pursuit of the second terrorist who is accused of being on the run is being conducted.
This comes a day after a high-level security meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi where he instructed the officials to counter the recent increase of the terrorist activities in the Jammu region explicitly. Terrorists have targeted four places in Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua and Doda districts in the past two weeks and nine people including a CRPF jawan have been martyred.
On June 12, the security forces had a confrontation with two alleged Pakistani terrorists in Kathua district and killed them besides seizing stocks of arms and ammunition. Amid the rising tension, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan set to visit Jammu today for security review. He will be taken to the White Knight Corps in Nagrota, where he will be briefed on the situation.

And as the region wakes up to a new face of terrorism, the Indian security system is alert to this new danger. Another positive action of the forces in eradicating the terrorist in Bandipora is one of the ways that they have continued to demonstrate their seriousness in the protection of the country. But it is a long way ahead and there is still much more that needs to be done to counter the menace of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
